Explore, investigate, experiment and discover! ๐Ÿงช๐ŸŒŸ

Our Science Club is a fun, hands-on club where children can become scientists for the afternoon! Through exciting investigations, experiments, challenges and practical activities, children will explore how and why things happen.

Each session will focus on a different scientific theme, giving children opportunities to ask questions, make predictions, carry out investigations, observe results and draw conclusions.

The club is designed to make science exciting and accessible, encouraging children to be curious about the world around them.

๐Ÿงช What scientific themes might we explore?

Our sessions may cover a wide range of fascinating topics, including:

  • ๐ŸŒ‹ Volcanoes and chemical reactions

  • ๐Ÿงฒ Magnets and forces

  • ๐ŸŒˆ Light and colour

  • ๐Ÿ’ง Water and states of matter

  • ๐ŸŒฑ Plants and growing

  • ๐Ÿซง Bubbles and surface tension

  • โšก Electricity and circuits

  • ๐Ÿš€ Space and planets

  • ๐Ÿฆด The human body

  • ๐Ÿฆ‹ Animals and habitats

  • ๐Ÿชจ Rocks, soils and fossils

  • ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Weather and climate

  • ๐ŸŒ Earth and the environment

  • ๐Ÿ”Š Sound and vibrations

  • โš–๏ธ Forces, motion and gravity

  • ๐Ÿงช Materials and their properties

  • ๐ŸŽ Food science

  • ๐Ÿงฌ Life cycles and living things

  • ๐Ÿ”Ž Microscopes and scientific observation

  • โ™ป๏ธ Recycling and sustainability

๐Ÿ”ฌ What investigations and experiments might we do?

Children may take part in activities such as:

  • ๐ŸŒ‹ Make a mini volcano โ€“ investigate a safe fizzy reaction.

  • ๐Ÿฅš Egg experiments โ€“ explore materials, strength and scientific change.

  • ๐Ÿงฒ Magnet investigations โ€“ discover which materials are magnetic.

  • ๐ŸŒˆ Make a rainbow โ€“ explore how light can be separated into colours.

  • ๐Ÿซง Bubble investigations โ€“ explore bubbles, shapes and surface tension.

  • ๐ŸŒฑ Seed experiments โ€“ investigate what plants need to grow.

  • ๐Ÿ’ง Floating and sinking โ€“ predict and test different objects.

  • ๐ŸงŠ Ice investigations โ€“ explore melting and temperature.

  • ๐ŸŽˆ Balloon experiments โ€“ investigate air, pressure and movement.

  • ๐Ÿฅค Fizzy drink investigations โ€“ explore gases and reactions.

  • ๐Ÿงช Colour-changing experiments โ€“ investigate changes using safe materials.

  • ๐Ÿช‚ Paper helicopter challenge โ€“ investigate air resistance and falling.

  • ๐Ÿš€ Rocket challenges โ€“ explore forces and movement.

  • ๐Ÿ—๏ธ Bridge-building investigations โ€“ test strength and structure.

  • โš–๏ธ Balance challenges โ€“ explore weight, forces and stability.

  • ๐Ÿ”Š Sound experiments โ€“ investigate vibrations and how sound travels.

  • ๐Ÿ’ก Simple circuit investigations โ€“ explore how electricity can flow.

  • ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ Science mystery challenges โ€“ use clues and observations to solve a problem.

  • ๐Ÿ”Ž Magnifying investigations โ€“ look closely at everyday objects and natural materials.

  • ๐Ÿงช Mystery material investigations โ€“ compare and test different materials.

๐Ÿง  Become a young scientist!

Children will be encouraged to follow the scientific process:

Question โ†’ Predict โ†’ Investigate โ†’ Observe โ†’ Record โ†’ Explain

They will be encouraged to ask questions about what they observe, make predictions about what they think will happen and then carry out an investigation to see whether their prediction was correct.

๐ŸŒŸ What do children get from the club?

Science Club gives children the opportunity to:

  • Develop their curiosity and enthusiasm for science.

  • Take part in exciting hands-on experiments.

  • Develop observation and investigation skills.

  • Learn how to make predictions.

  • Develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

  • Explore cause and effect.

  • Develop confidence in asking questions.

  • Learn how to record and discuss results.

  • Develop teamwork and communication skills.

  • Discover how science relates to everyday life.

  • Develop resilience by testing ideas and trying again.

  • Enjoy practical learning in a fun environment.

  • Build confidence in their scientific abilities.

๐Ÿ“š What learning takes place?

Children will develop an understanding of key scientific ideas through practical investigations.

They will learn about forces, materials, living things, plants, light, sound, electricity, Earth and space, chemical reactions and the environment, depending on the activities being explored.

The club develops important scientific enquiry skills, including observing closely, asking questions, making predictions, carrying out fair tests, measuring, recording observations and drawing conclusions.

Children will also develop maths skills through measuring, counting, comparing, recording results and identifying patterns.

Practical experiments encourage children to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They will learn that scientists don't always get the expected result and that unexpected results can provide useful information.

Working in pairs and teams encourages communication, cooperation and discussion, while explaining their findings helps children develop scientific vocabulary and confidence in expressing their ideas.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Science is everywhere!

From exciting chemical reactions and magnetic forces to plants, animals, space and the human body, Science Club gives children the chance to explore the world through practical investigation and discovery.

๐Ÿ’ท Fee: Block bookings are ยฃ6.25 per week or ad-hoc bookings are ยฃ7.00 per session
