ð What learning takes place?
Origami provides valuable learning opportunities across art, mathematics, design and personal development.
Children will learn how to follow step-by-step instructions, listen carefully and complete a sequence of actions in the correct order. They will develop patience and perseverance as some models become more challenging.
Origami also provides practical opportunities to explore mathematical concepts, including shapes, symmetry, angles, fractions, patterns and spatial awareness. Children can see how a flat piece of paper can be transformed into a three-dimensional object.
The activity supports fine motor development, strengthening hand control and coordination through folding, pressing, aligning and manipulating paper.
Children will also develop problem-solving skills as they work out how to correct a fold or adapt their approach when a model doesn't turn out as expected.
As well as developing practical skills, children will discover that origami has a rich cultural history, giving them an introduction to Japanese traditions and creative arts.
ð Fold it, make it, create it!
Origami Club provides a wonderful opportunity for children to slow down, concentrate and get creative while learning a fascinating new skill. Every folded piece of paper becomes an opportunity to create something completely new!
