Our Puppet Theatre Club is a fun and creative introduction to the world of drama, puppetry and performance. Children will have the opportunity to make their own puppets, create stories and characters, and perform exciting puppet shows for others.
The club introduces children to key drama skills in a fun and accessible way, helping them explore how facial expressions, body language, gestures and changes in their voice can communicate different emotions, characters and purposes.
Children will learn that the way we speak and move can completely change how a character or story is understood.

Children may take part in activities including:

🎤 Drama, Expression and Vocal Skills
An important part of the club is introducing children to the basics of drama and performance.
Children will explore how actors and puppeteers communicate ideas and emotions using their voices, faces and bodies.
They may practise:
😊 Using facial expressions to show happiness, sadness, surprise, anger or excitement.
🔊 Changing volume to suit the situation or character.
🎵 Changing pitch to make a character sound different.
🐢 Changing pace – speaking slowly for suspense or faster for excitement.
😮 Using tone to communicate different emotions.
🤫 Using pauses and silence to create anticipation.
🗣️ Speaking clearly so that an audience can understand.
🎭 Changing their voice to match different characters.
🤸 Using body language and gestures to communicate meaning.
👀 Thinking about how a character might move.
🎬 Matching expression and vocal changes to the purpose of a scene.
Children will learn that a funny scene might require an energetic voice and exaggerated expressions, while a serious or mysterious scene may require a quieter voice, slower pace and more controlled movements.

📚 What learning takes place?
The club supports children's development in drama, communication, literacy, creativity and personal confidence.
Children will learn how stories are structured and how characters, settings and events can be developed to create an engaging performance.
Through puppet-making and theatre construction, children develop fine motor skills, creativity and design skills. Writing and performing scripts provides opportunities to develop vocabulary, sentence construction and storytelling.
Drama activities encourage children to develop communication and oracy skills. They will practise speaking clearly, listening to others and adapting their voice and expression to suit different characters, situations and purposes.
Children will explore how volume, pitch, pace, tone, facial expression and body language can change the meaning or feeling of a performance.
Group performances encourage teamwork, cooperation, confidence and respect, as children learn to share ideas, take turns and work towards a common goal.
The club also helps children develop resilience and self-confidence, encouraging them to have a go, experiment with different characters and learn that making mistakes is a natural part of performing.

Whether your child loves performing, storytelling, crafting or simply enjoys being imaginative, Puppet Theatre Club provides a fantastic introduction to drama and performance.
Children can make, create, rehearse and perform, while developing the confidence to use their voice, expressions and imagination to bring their characters and stories to life.
💷 Fee: Bookings are £6.25 per week or ad-hoc bookings are £7.00 per session
📌 Spaces: Limited spaces available – early booking is recommended.
Activities will be adapted to suit children's ages, abilities and confidence levels. Children will be encouraged to participate at their own comfort level.
